It may be hard to fathom, but Jeep’s newest JL Wrangler is getting ready to push into its seventh model year. And while the brand has made a few tweaks here and there to its design since 2018, it appears a larger overhaul will be in order for the 2024 selling season.

According to industry reports, Stellantis has already released an informational video to its dealer network highlighting what to expect from this mid-life refresh. Although no images of the re-worked Wrangler accompanied the video, it did indicate the vehicle’s overall appearance would not change but will display a slimmed down front grille, larger infotainment system, new 4xe trim levels and other options like a recovery package, waterproof interior system and heavy-duty axle set up.

If you’ve been following Jeep’s 2023 Easter Safari Concept releases, then you know some of these new ideas will be baked into those concepts, so you’ll get a first glance at them in just over two weeks.

As far as the 2024 Wrangler updates, the brand looks to offer its popular 4xe in two more trims, including the return of the Sahara-based High Altitude luxury model that will now stand on its own level, as well as a new Sport S 4xe edition — which is exciting for hybrid electrification fans wanting an entry-level model. Additionally, 4xe owners will now be able to use their battery to power external items, a feature certain to entice overlanders and campers.

The brand is also offering two Rubicon packages, including a new Rubicon 2TY trim that will feature luxury options such as leather seats, matching body-color fenders, and forward collision warning.

The Willys model will undergo some performance enhancements as well, such as heightened ground clearance, improved traction and reportedly a new off-road tire package.

Most of the Wrangler’s exterior design elements will remain the same with the exception of a new, slimmer grille design that Rubicon 4xe and Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary Edition models are now sporting, while all trim packages are receiving new wheel options. Also new will be a heavy-duty axle option for enhanced towing capability and ‘recovery package’ that most likely incorporates an integrated winch inside a Jeep Performance Products front bumper.

As far as powertrain options, it appears Jeep will stick to its current crop that includes a Pentastar V6, turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, the PHEV with that 2.0-liter inline-four, and most notably, it is continuing to powerful 6.4-liter HEMI SRT V8 for Rubicon 392 models. With V8 options commonly disappearing from other auto manufacturer line-ups, it’s definitely exciting to see Jeep maintain this offering for its power-focused enthusiasts.

Moving to refreshed Wrangler’s interior — buyers can now opt for a new Seat Comfort and Convenience Enhancement Group Package for a more pleasant ride experience, or the new Premium Cabin Package which is said to offer a quieter driving experience for certain trim levels.

Owners across all models will enjoy an entirely new instrument panel that features a 10.1” Uconnect 5 touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, as well as brand new Off-Road Pages and Maps.

The 2024 Wrangler models are currently available to order directly from dealerships with expected delivery sometime this fall. An entire unveiling of the refreshed vehicle lineup should come shortly — perhaps early April during Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah.
