Reviews for Mopar 82216359AA Hitch Receiver Wiring Harness for 18-24 Jeep Wrangler JL
Pretty Clean and easy to follow installation, use the video, it helps a lot!
Took about two hours total, The wires get a bit bunched up in the Passenger side tail light but otherwise the installation is straight forward. Be patient when removing all the panels inside!!
Video does not match the instructions for my 2018 JLU. No need to tear the entire inside of the Jeep apart.
Apparently the wiring harness has been updated also since my "red" wire is built into the main harness
I'd give it a 4.5 out of the box, but.... quadratec video outdated, first 20 plus minutes is NA. Driver side tailight wire (yellow) was short by about 6 inches, even with harness lose. BTW while the video does show this driver side connector installation, if you use the "just pull it apart" technique the presenter used you will screw up the connectors. There are two locks on each side of the pale cover inside the connector that you must release to get cover out. Reinstalling is another pain, with a short cable, you have to be sure all the wire connectors are properly aligned before installing locking cover. I would think Mopar could design this much easier with a prewired plugs. The harness wire for trailer plug, also short about 1/2 inch on each wire, should be more slack to allow insertion. BTW when presenter says you may snap the Christmas tree plugs while removing wheel well liner, he means you will break them.. They cost over $5 per at Mopar and must buy 10 minimum. Or, use autozone parts for 50 cents. Wish they would just include these and charge us. Do not like the writers use of diesel and gas drawings on same page. If there is a difference, you should just have a note that says see this page for differences. Lazy writing.
I recommend this product though I gave a middle of the road rating. Product arrived without damage and with all advertised content. I highly recommend buying the lower lining/ valence push pins (some call Christmas tree pins)--I purchased the Crown Automotive ones--its almost from my experience impossible to remove the factory ones without damaging. In my install removing the factory lining, extension piece/ wiring on the driver's side, and multi-pin portion were the most difficult to do. Ensure you have small needle nose pliers and plastic rivet tool. I was able to get installed without removing my passenger rear tire or lifting my Jeep off the ground. Low rating is for the factory instructions mainly, they are that bad. I highly recommend looking at videos on installing, Quadratec provides one and it is pretty good though the wiring harness now goes on the outside body of the Jeep. I have not tested yet but believe it will all work fine as I have had no trouble/ error code EVIC pings with well over two-hundred miles and all lights are functioning as before. Brake controller will probably happen if I can get to work and still keep my Quadratec behind the windshield light bar. Thanks Quadratec.
The good news: the product works great. The bad news: MOPAR has redesigned this harness. Quadratec's installation video is now therefore out of date. Instead of an inside-the-cabin wiring, the harness now has to be routed outside the cabin. Unfortunately, I did not unbundle the wiring harness until I had disassembled my interior do didn't realize it until too late. I had to make a couple of work-arounds in order to install the harness. Also, you will need a plastic pop rivet gun for the installation. I don't think this was mentioned in the video, but they're really an essential tool for any Jeep owner anyway.
Installer beware. The Quadratec product installation video does not apply to the Mopar wiring kit I received Nor does the product picture or installation instructions currently on Quadratec website. When I called Quadratec support I was told that the manufacture must have made a modification but the installation instructions that came with the product will work. I could not argue the fact. Yes, I did receive the paper copy of the instructions. The problem is that I followed the installation video and took apart my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sahara interior from front to back as the instructional video explained. It was only when I went to begin the actual cable installation that I learned of a major product modification. The new installation procedure requires you to route the wires underneath the vehicle which requires the removal of the passenger fender wells. Since I already had my interior prepared for the installation, I elected to modify the cable and performed the installation as in the instructional video. Other than that this is a quality part and functions perfectly. I also installed the Mopar receiver. Sure it was more money than some of the non Mopar products out there but this looks factory and is good quality. I would have given this a solid 5 but was not happy with the lack of information regarding to the product modification along with the amount of time I had to wait to receive my wiring kit.
I tried following the video that quadratec posted 2 years ago and basically screwed myself over because they have since changed the design of their harness. It would be really nice if they had explained that with the packaging. Having the 2 door wrangler mad me think yeah I should have son excess wire going from the front to back I just didn't realize the extra wire came from the part the runs from the passenger side tail light to the actual connection point that can only be bolted to one side of the hitch receiver and what do you know it doesn't reach. So I am currently looking for ways to solve my little dilemma without having to buy a tap and die set to thread the other side of the receiver hitch. It still basically doing what I want is the only reason this still gets 2 stars.
Installed the wiring harness per instructions and the helpful video made by quadratec. Install took around 3 hours taking my time not to break anything hardest part was getting through the firewall. After install was complete I had no power to the new 4 pin and 7 pin connector. Checked fuse box and my jl didn’t have any fuses for trailer pkg after running to my local orielly’s and purchasing micro 2 blade fuses my Jeep doesn’t have the factory connections inside the fuse box to hook up fuses for trailer lights. The slot is there in the fuse box however there isn’t anything to connect the new fuse to. Just spent 264 dollars and still don’t have trailer lights. Before you purchase ensure your Jeep has the prongs in F36 and F37 or you will be wasting your money. After calling the dealer they told me my Jeep doesn’t have the option for a trailer wiring harness.
I spent 5 hours installing the wiring harness and at the end, when testing with a 4 pin and a 7 pin tester, I turned on vehicle and lights and the testers both failed; the device lights did not come on. I think no power is getting to the pin area. It’s frustrating the product, expensive, did not work.
