Crown Automotive Front Big Brake Kit Reviews
Great deal and great product
Great upgrade. Easily able to lock up the tires when needed and no brake fade when off-roading anymore.
Great kit at a great price and a super easy install. I also replaced my master cyl with the "HD" version as suggested. I've found these brakes have made a huge difference in stopping distance and overall confidence, especially when towing. Fits inside my 17" aftermarket wheels but I doubt 16" would work. The included brake pads aren't great, smoked them easily, something never done w stock brakes with original factory pads with 75k miles on them doing the same towing, etc, so I went with parts house semi-metallic replacements and have been happy.
Questions

Here's why:
Increased Fluid Volume: Big brake kits typically have larger calipers with more pistons. These larger calipers require a greater volume of brake fluid to operate effectively. The stock master cylinder might not be able to supply enough fluid, leading to a soft or spongy brake pedal feel and reduced braking performance.
Maintaining Pedal Feel and Travel: A larger master cylinder bore can help maintain a firm and responsive brake pedal feel with the increased volume demands of the big brake calipers. Without an upgrade, you might experience excessive pedal travel before the brakes engage properly.
Ensuring Optimal Brake Performance: The entire brake system needs to work in harmony.
Upgrading the master cylinder ensures that the increased clamping force and heat dissipation capabilities of the big brake kit can be fully utilized, resulting in the intended improvement in stopping power and brake modulation.
What to look for in an upgraded master cylinder:
Larger Bore Diameter: The new master cylinder will typically have a larger bore diameter than the stock one to displace more fluid with each push of the pedal.
Compatibility: Ensure the upgraded master cylinder is specifically designed or recommended for your Jeep JKU and the big brake kit you've chosen. Some big brake kit manufacturers may even offer or recommend specific master cylinder upgrades. In summary, while some smaller big brake kits might function with the stock master cylinder, it is generally best practice and often essential for optimal performance and safety to upgrade the master brake cylinder when installing a big brake kit on your Jeep JK/JKU. Always consult the manufacturer's recommendations for your specific big brake kit.
