Description
Two design elements are specifically incorporated to reduce spring stress. First, the tension side of each leaf plate is shot-peened. Secondly, the springs feature a relatively flat seat (where the spring mates to the axle), so the spring pack is not "fighting" the clamping force generated by the U-bolts. Reducing stress extends life. 1955 to 1975 models use press-fit, steel encased rubber spring eye bushings; they work best on these applications. Polyurethane spring eye bushings are used on all other models. New U-bolts with self-locking hardware are provided.
